Returning to my Roots
Métis Nation - Saskatchewan
This past summer, I got an opportunity to return to my roots to help grow Métis culture in my home province of Saskatchewan. Becoming a part of the Métis Nation has helped me grow closer to my heritage as I grow to blend my learning and experience with my Métis culture.
Back to Batoche 2026
Back to Batoche is the largest Indigenous cultural festival in Canada. Hosted yearly in Batoche, I was part of this year's promotions and on-site media. Prior to the start of Batoche, I got to create promo videos that were shared on the Back to Batoche social media platforms to help inform and notify citizens about important or relevant information at this year's Back to Batoche. During the festival, I got to be a host in the second-year of 106.1 FM Batoche Resistance Radio, where I helped create audio PSAs and hosted an afternoon show with a fellow intern. Throughout my final working days at Batoche, I was put into a media role where I took photos of either the emotion around Batoche or events that were happening, including Slow Pitch, Horse Racing, and other smaller planned functions.
Promo Videos
The promo videos were posted into the MN-S and Back to Batoche social media's as a way to inform citizens about important information they should know before attending Back to Batoche. These videos were the first chunk of work I got to do as soon as I started my internship as we were in the middle of preparations for Back to Batoche.

Resistance Radio
Batoche Resistance Radio is a weekend radio station that's live during the Back to Batoche festival. This last summer was its second year of creation. My role in this project was to help prepare relevant content to be played over-the-air at Batoche. As well, produce promotional content to get the word out there to our citizens about Batoche Resistance Radio. During Back to Batoche, I was on-air with another intern, where we both co-hosted the show by informing BTB attendees about events going on, conducting interviews with citizens, and keeping a positive on-air experience for all those who gave it a listen.

Back to Batoche Photos
When I wasn't on-air at Back to Batoche, I assisted the creative team in taking photos around the Batoche grounds during the festival. Through this, I got to capture lots of Horse Racing photos, which helped widen my sports photography field. This experience taught me to learn much more about photography etiquette and professionalism while in the media field surrounded by crowds of people.

Indigenous History Month Video Series
Role: Primary Editor
To demonstrate indigenous culture and pride, during June's National Indigenous History Month, I was in charge of creating videos from elders we've interviewed to demonstrate a key Métis trait or core piece of our identity. Was originally expected to create four videos total, but the first week's video had to be passed off to focus on other major projects. These videos helped express the voices of our Métis elders and promote the cultural pride of being Métis during National Indigenous History Month.

Métis Nation Legislative Assembly Spring 2026
Role: Primary Editor, Photographer, Videographer
The Métis Nation Legislative Assembly is an event hosted twice a year (Spring and Fall) that brings together Métis leaders, elders, youth, and citizens from across the province. These meetings act as a method to include all Métis citizens in the nation's political discussion and get their opinion or approval on specific pieces of drafted legislation. I attended the Spring 2026 MNLA as government media where I took photos and videos throughout the event. Being able to participate in the MNLA in this way helped me gain an better understanding on the political policy aspect of the Métis Nation.

Rock Your Roots

The Rock Your Roots walk is an event that pushes for awareness of Residential School survivors and promotes reconciliation. This event helped me gain a much deeper perspective and emotional connection to the suffering that many Indigenous individuals and families suffered through at the hands of Residential schools. This event saw a massive group of over 7,000 people walk around the neighborhoods of Riversdale and River Landing in Saskatoon, SK. During this event, I took photos and videos of the walk, capturing the growth of an awareness movement as we push to have the silenced voices heard. Following the walk, I put together a short recap video of the event, which we posted to the primary MN-S social media platforms.
